Holding Space for Our Grief

Life moves through the grief, and unbiasedly requires the same of us.  We hold space for the loss; and our hearts hurt sometimes- even despite the beautiful sunshine we stand in.

Today, we hold space to commemorate the countless lives of our sons, brothers, fathers, sisters, daughters, husbands, wives…who we’ve loved with every ounce of our being, and have lost.  Those who chose us, chose all the sunshine and beauty we are gifted to soak up today & believed it was worth the risk of them losing the chance to experience it- so that we can.  So we hold space for the love, the community & friendship, the laughter, the small moments of monumental beauty and decadence that fill our today, our tomorrow and our lives.  We also, are reminded the breath we take this very moment is the gift so lovingly surrendered on our behalf by the soldiers (both the living & the dead) who chose to love us through the most selfless and sacrificial action that can ever be shown- to risk/lay down one’s own life; on behalf of another.  Ours.

Today, I am unspeakably grateful to those who’ve risked their lives for our freedom.  Today, I stand in all the beauty the gift of this moment has in bloom.  Today, I also- hold space for the deep grief of our broken hearts, our aching souls, and our lonely truths- because grief too, exists in this sunshine.

Thank you to all the service men and women who’ve served our country.  Thank you for loving our country so well, that you chose to risk your life to ensure our freedoms.  Thank you to the Gold Star families, whose hearts today are broken as we commemorate both the living & the fallen of those who served.

God Bless America, May God Bless Us All
